Third Grade students experience a huge growth year as they work on becoming more independent thinkers and workers. It is a transitional year with more homework and an emphasis on good study habits. In religion, students deepen their faith through a better understanding of the Bible. In math, the students learn multiplication and division for the first time. They work hard to memorize their basic facts and create and solve story problems. The science curriculum encourages students to engage in hands-on learning about life cycles and plant development. In language arts, students learn to organize their thoughts as they write their first reports, using animals as the theme. When completed, the students take a field trip to Northwest Trek to see their researched animal. Third graders begin to read chapter books. They learn to write book reports and have reading folders to encourage comprehension and vocabulary development. The favorite subject in third grade is cursive handwriting! By the end of the year, students have worked hard but feel ready to take on fourth grade.
