Second Grade students spend an important part of their year preparing for and receiving the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion. Emphasis is placed upon finding one's place in the world and understanding a person's responsibility as a member of a community. Students gain proficiency in their reading, writing and math skills. They read a variety of genres and learn to identify the main idea of a story as well as the supporting ideas. Students master basic addition and subtraction skills. They become better writers as they learn the six traits of writing. In social studies, students study the government, with a focus on Washington, D.C. The science program provides a hands-on opportunity to observe the life cycles of living insects and compare the stages of metamorphosis. Field trips include a visit to The Seattle Children's Theatre. |
